Roma Here We Come!

I am back! I haven't quite fallen off the face of the earth.... Here is the next installment.

We spent a lot of the next day travelling for Rome. In the evening we went on an optional up into the hills to Tivoli Gardens. This was one of my many favourite things.... The Villa D'Este in Tivoli was built around the 15th century (I think!) for a cardinal. The villa is painted in amazing frescos but the real wonder is the gardens, they are full of fountains. The fountains are all original, built when the villa was built.The fountains are all fed by a river that runs under the villa. At night the fountains are stopped allowing the water to gather in a resovoir under the villa. In the morning the fountains are allowed to flow again and the natural pressure of the water creates these amazing fountains!

This is Wendy (the Little Wendy) who was travelling with her older sister Cindy. Wendy and Cindy come from Australia aswell. Here she is trying to teach Zadok how to do her trademark pose, I don't think she is very impressed with his work!

After this we had dinner in a grotto. The rooms underground were found by the owner of the building. The rooms (there were many) are said to date back almost 2000 years. 'Mamma' made pasta for us and we had live music and dancing, it was good fun.

Then back home to bed ready for Rome the next day.
